User Ratings and Reviews

3 Stars Not for “biggest losers”
Maybe I didn’t read enough of the reviews but I missed that this book, while good, is not intended for people who need to lose more than “the last stubborn 20 pounds” and it assumes you are in “moderately good shape”, of which I am neither. I will put this book away and return to it when I reach those last few pounds. The good thing is the book was not expensive and some of the recipes are pretty good.

3 Stars too many assumptions
I just got the book and was very excited. Then as I am reading and paging through I noticed in the workout section that she assumes that you have access to a gym. I work out exclusively at home and do not have access to gym equipment. I am very disappointed. I diet looks interesting, difficult with a family, but it is only for 30 days to be followed strictly.

5 Stars Awesome Book
This book just arrived but I’ve already read through most of it and plan to start the program next week. I’ve read a lot of books and articles and websites about fitness and training and diet, but this one lays it all out in a way that makes sense and is easy to process. Further, Jillian takes several different diet and fitness concepts and combines them to show how they can work together. Which isn’t something I’ve seen done a lot. Normally a book just focuses on one thing and completely ignores the existence of everything else. So you’re left wondering if you should do one or the other, or if you can do both.

Some of the reviews have complained about how rude/mean Jillian is in her book. Jillian is no-nonsense and I think everybody in America knows that by now. If you want to be coddled, this is not the book for you.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to be coddled, but it’s a little unfair to expect someone to change their entire personality for you. I didn’t find this book the least bit insulting. I like her kickass attitude. And she isn’t “mean.” This book IS meant for people who only have the last 10-20 pounds to lose.

She’s up front about that and doesn’t try to make claims that she can’t back up. She recommends her other book for people who have more weight than that to lose, and then she tells them to come right back here to this book when they get to the 10-20 pound point.

I’m not sure how/why this is insulting.

5 Stars Work out
I am still in the process of reading the book but enjoyed everything about it. My favorite part is that it has a section that plans meals for you and also has a section with exercises, including pictures of the excercises. I bought Jillian’s first book two years ago and this one is a great addition to her collection.

5 Stars good workout routine
Im giving this 5 stars only bc I loved the workout and excercises. I have been able to bring her ideas to the gym. I had been looking for a book with good techniques and basically, its a personall trainer in a book. I love it and am now on my 2nd week and i feel the pain and I see my abs already starting to work. Her harsh words arent for me neither are the wierd food recipes- but Im picky and have never found a book with meal that are real. I like the book and won’t give it up. If you want to train yourself… this is the book, she also has good information on vitamins, supplements and anything regarding health and nutrition.

The South Beach Diet Supercharged Faster Weight Loss and Better Health for Life

Five years ago, with the publication of The South Beach Diet, renowned Miami cardiologist Dr. Arthur Agatston set out to change the way America eats. Now he has an even more ambitious goal: to change the way America lives by helping Americans become fitter as well as thinner and healthier…for life.

In the all-new The South Beach Diet Supercharged, Dr. Agatston shows you how to rev up your metabolism and lose weight faster while following the proven healthy eating principles of the original diet: choose good carbs, good fats, lean protein, and low-fat dairy.

Collaborating with Dr. Joseph Signorile, a professor of exercise physiology at the University of Miami, Dr. Agatston presents a cutting-edge, three-phase workout that perfectly complements the three phases of the diet itself. Based on the latest exercise science, this ease-into-it fitness program combines low- and high-intensity interval exercise (with a focus on walking) and functional core body-toning exercises. The result: you’ll look fitter and you’ll burn more fat and calories all day–even at rest.

Also included is the latest nutritional research on how specific foods high in vitamins, minerals, fiber, and a host of phytonutrients help keep you healthy; new and expanded lists of Foods to Enjoy; taste-tempting Meal Plans for phases 1 and 2; and dozens of easy-to-prepare new recipes, including Eggs Frijoles, Chock-Full-of-Veggies Chili, Roasted Tomato Soup, Homestyle Turkey Meatloaf, and South Beach Diet Tiramisu. In every chapter you’ll find inspiring success stories from real-life South Beach dieters and plenty of effective weight loss tips. And as an added bonus, Dr. Agatston answers the questions you’ve most often asked him about the diet since the original book was published.

3 Stars a little more information
The new addition to the South Beach diet books is pretty much a repeat of the first book. The only real difference is that there are step by step exercises outlined. If you already have the first book and have a handle on your exercise, then don’t bother. I thought that there would at least be some new recipes but all of the recipes in this book are in the other South Beach Diet books.

5 Stars Good Service
The book I ordered was securely wrapped, shipped promptly and was in perfect condition when it arrived. The nutritional value of the plans present would appear to be much more logical than that used by Atkins. I’d do business with this supplier again, no reservations.

5 Stars Slow but Sure
The South Beach diet is one healthy, slow, sure way to loose weight and keep it off. This book is the bible of the program.

5 Stars Easy to follow
I have always tried to lose weight using the Hilton Head Metabolism Diet. While it works, I was always left feeling very hungry. The South Beach Diet was recommended to me by several friends. I have 40 pounds to lose after giving birth to twins. The first week of this diet was hard because I was more addicted to sugar than I realized. I felt sluggish and had dark circles under my eyes. After the first week, I felt outstanding. I have more energy and have not felt the need to “cheat” once. I’m not a fish eater but I still find this easy to follow. My favorite recipe is the Turkey Meatloaf. I’m starting the 4th week and have lost 10+ pounds (in all the right places). This book has taught me how to eat better.

5 Stars South Beach Diet
I thought this updated version of the earlier book was much clearer and easier to follow. I like the exercises that are included, especially the fact that they are very doable. If you are ready to get your act together, you will appreciate this book.

Breakthrough Eight Steps to Wellness

Breakthrough Eight Steps to Wellness

Life-Altering Secrets from Today’s Cutting-Edge Doctors and the #1 New York Times Bestselling Author of Ageless

Today’s most trusted advocate of antiaging medicine, Suzanne Somers, deepens her commitment to helping people lead healthier, happier lives by opening their eyes to cutting-edge, proven remedies and preventative care that most doctors just aren’t talking about with patients: longevity medicine and the more progressive study of bioidentical hormones.

As we age, certain hormones diminish, creating an imbalance that can set off everything from perimenopause to cancer, beginning as early as our thirties. This hormonal imbalance is causing many to feel depressed, anxious, fatigued, sexless, sleepless, and ultimately ill, sometimes even terminally. What’s more, Somers and twenty doctors in the field of antiaging medicine argue that the processed chemicals in foods and pharmaceuticals we ply ourselves with are actually slowly eroding our bodies and minds. So we’re getting slammed twice. From estrogen dominance to deceptive thyroid problems, people are suffering, and most don’t have access to the treatment they truly need to get better and thrive . . . until now.

Breakthrough explores cutting-edge science and delivers smart, proactive advice on the newest treatments for breakthrough health and longevity.

In addition to being a pioneer in a rapidly growing health field, Somers is a passionate, caring individual whose own life was derailed by disease and brought back to unimaginable, feel good heights that she wants you, too, to experience.

5 Stars THE BEST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ ON HEALTH
This book is a life saver. I can’t say enough about how dead on Suzanne and her doctors are about health care and what we need to do to get off of too many prescription medications. If it weren’t for her knowledge and great doctors I would be miserable with hormones out of balance. Many doctors just want to prescribe mood altering drugs instead of getting to the bottom of the dysfunction. I can’t give this enough praise. Thank God for her. Lynn H. in Texas

5 Stars Breakthrough
This book is one of the best books I have read. My husband even enjoyed it and he never reads.

4 Stars Excellent guide to 21 century health options
I think this book has done important work for people that have doubt about the traditional medicine, and want to explore new ways of health management. In traditional medicine there are the vested powers and interest that we are up against. Fact is that modern medicine is able to extend lifespan but does not preserve well being in that process.

Enlightened doctors spearhead a new type of medicine that has the potential to extend life without compromising the quality of life!

Suzanne Somers takes us to these doctors and shows us alternative ways to stay healthy whilst getting old. She deserves alll the credit for writting a book that is a must read for all those that donot want to continue on a sure path to a nursery home and the risk to live the end of ones years in a vegetative state.

4 Stars Information that women need to know!
It would nice to have all the time and money Ms. Somers has–to wrap your life around looking and feeling younger. But the reality is: most of us don’t. However, Ms. Somers’ book does give some good advice. It’s worth reading–even though most women won’t have the resources to implement all the suggestions given.

4 Stars I bought this book because…
I saw an interview somewhere with Ms. Sommers on her TV book tour. As the interview rushed to a close, she was trying to get in something about a rememdy for acid reflux. I HAD horrible acid reflux and should have seen a doctor long ago, but had been trying to manage with OTC drugs.

I waited for a few weeks for the Kindle version to become available and finally downloaded it and was able to search for what she had mentioned. I tried what the doctor recommended and in a little over a week, no acid reflux. I am absolutely astounded. I guess I’ll have to read the rest of the book now, but I look forward to it.

I Can Make You Thin The Revolutionary System Used by More Than 3 Million People Book and CD

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars A solution the works in the real world
I bought this book about a month ago while I was recovering from tonsil surgery. I had already purchased a few other books of the same self hypnosis/mind re-programming nature. Out of what I have read, this book made the most sense. While some people might dismiss his 4 golden rules as being simplistic or even faulty (how can you lose weight eating whatever you want?), the premise behind these rules makes perfect sense and I have seen the change in my eating habits and my relationship with food. This is coming after years of emotional and binge eating, certainly in part triggered by the frustration of trying to stick to an eating plan that seemed to leave me feeling hungry, unsatisified and still carrying extra weight. I have lost weight thru the use of these conventional restrictive plans, but it has never stayed off because the truth is that life happens and the only way to be successful in losing weight and keeping it off is to be able to apply your eating habits to the real world, not just the small bubble of your home.

5 Stars What do you have to lose?
Paul McKenna’s techniques have been around for a while. Do they work? a resounding yes! Some reviewers seem to have misunderstood the information that was given in the book. No where does he state that you can stuff your face with all the food you want. He states to eat what you really want. But, then, he goes on to describe HOW you are to eat it. Slowly, very slowly. So that your stomach has time to realize there is food in it and stop when you are comfortable, not when you feel like a stuffed turkey. Yes, his techniques are common sense. But how many obese people do you know really stop and think about how they eat, they just eat. I have the CD but haven’t listened to it yet, due to being too busy. I’ve started slowly doing the techniques, he has described and they are working for me. So, get the book, read it, and try the techiniques. What do you have to lose, except the weight?

5 Stars McKenna’s CD is a daily must!
Paul McKenna is a Master Hypnotherapist & I have tried others before! For the first time in my life I have control over my eating! I highly recommended it for all who are over-weight. His mothod also improves self-esteem & releaqsing of feaqr.

5 Stars I Can Make You Thin
I have just started to begin using this program and I am seeing small changes. I hope the weight will start falling off soon!

5 Stars Worked for Me!
I’m 45 years old and 175lbs, although I was 185lbs four weeks ago. This program works. I haven’t seen 175lbs in ten years. The book has four common sense rules, the last of which is to stop eating when you think you’re full. Easier said than done, but the CD at the back of the book helps you do it. The old garbage in garbage out cliche applies. The CD somehow gives you the willpower to eat sensibly. I can still eat In-N-Out Burgers, or whatever I want, I just don’t have the desire to eat all the leftovers from my kids. It’s not a diet, it’s a minor lifestyle change. Highly recommended!
